questions
Is there a time limit?
Three and a half hours in Cork, Limerick and Lahinch; three forty-five in Nenagh because of the climb. That is roughly a ten minute kilometre, and a walker moving steadily will make it. The sweep vehicle stays behind the last runner the whole way.
Can I wear headphones?
Yes on the fully closed sections, which is most of Cork and Limerick. On the open-road sections at Nenagh and Lahinch you need to be able to hear traffic and marshals, so bone conduction or one ear out only.
Are the courses accurate?
All four are measured and licensed, so your time counts for club and championship purposes. Every course is 21.0975 km.
Can I run with a buggy or a dog?
No to both, on insurance grounds. Dogs are welcome at the finish areas on a lead.
What happens if the weather turns?
Lahinch is the one to watch. If a red or orange wind warning is in place we shorten the course to the sheltered inland loop, or move the race to the reserve date a fortnight later. You will hear by seven the evening before, by text and email.
What if I have never run a half before?
Start with Limerick. It is flat, it is in May so you can train through the spring, and there are pacers all the way back to two and a half hours. We send a twelve-week plan to every first-timer when you enter.
